First Impressions
Even after a decade of test drives, getting behind the wheel of a machine that represents the very best of automotive engineering still feels exhilarating. Covering several hundred kilometers in the McLaren 750S Spider reminded me once again how words often fall short of describing the pure joy of driving a car of this caliber.

From Teenage Dreams to Reality
Back in 2011, as a 16-year-old, I witnessed the rebirth of McLaren’s road cars with the launch of the MP4-12C. With its futuristic design, carbon monocoque chassis, and 600 hp twin-turbo V8, it went straight into Ferrari territory. I could hardly imagine that less than 15 years later, I would not only drive a McLaren but also review one of its most advanced models — the 750S Spider.
What Is the McLaren 750S?
The 750S is a direct descendant of the MP4-12C and an evolution of the 720S, unveiled in 2017. It belongs to the “Supercars” lineup, alongside the McLaren Artura, while the “Ultimate Models” range represents the brand’s most extreme creations.
Unveiled in April 2023, the 750S Spider refines the 720S formula with mechanical upgrades aimed at pure performance:
- Engine: 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8
- Power: 750 hp at 7,500 rpm (up from 720 hp)
- Torque: 800 Nm between 5,500–6,500 rpm
- Weight: reduced by 30 kg (1,389 kg for the coupe, 1,438 kg for the Spider)
Performance figures are breathtaking:
- 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph): 2.8 seconds
- 0–200 km/h (0–124 mph): 7.3 seconds
- 0–300 km/h (0–186 mph): 19.8 seconds
- Top speed: 332 km/h (206 mph)
Over 30% of the components are new compared to the 720S. The dual-clutch 7-speed gearbox has been revised, suspension recalibrated, brakes upgraded with Senna-derived monobloc calipers, and a larger carbon rear wing provides more downforce. A new lightweight oval central exhaust system completes the package.
Design and Exterior
At first glance, the 750S closely resembles the 720S, but subtle tweaks enhance its character. The redesigned front bumper features narrower air intakes, and the Spider can be customized with body-color details and premium Elite finishes like Mantis Green. Gloss Black accents and optional forged Vortex wheels highlight McLaren Orange brake calipers, wrapped in Pirelli PZero tires.

The profile remains sleek and aerodynamic, while the rear benefits from an enlarged retractable spoiler and a single central exhaust outlet.

Interior and Driving Position
The iconic dihedral doors add instant drama when entering the cabin. Inside, the layout is minimalist: no buttons on the steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster mounted directly on the steering column, and rotary selectors for Comfort, Sport, and Track modes. These control throttle response, gearbox mapping, suspension stiffness, and steering assistance.
A vertical central screen with Apple CarPlay manages navigation, climate, and infotainment. Optional upgrades include a 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system.
The standard lightweight carbon bucket seats can be swapped for more comfortable electrically adjustable seats or the ultra-light Senna-derived buckets. Orange contrast stitching, carbon interior trim, and racing harnesses further enhance the racing feel.

The Spider Advantage
The retractable hardtop roof folds in just 11 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h (31 mph). An optional electrochromic glass panel lets you adjust the transparency. The rear window can be lowered independently to enjoy the V8 soundtrack even with the roof closed.
Everyday Usability
Surprisingly, the 750S Spider is not only ferocious on track but also manageable in daily use. In the city, it feels surprisingly refined: light steering, excellent ride comfort, smooth gearshifts, and effective sound insulation (especially with the optional Sound Comfort windshield). The front trunk offers 150 liters of storage, making it practical enough for weekend trips.
But switch to Sport mode, and the Spider transforms. Acceleration is brutal, the V8 soundtrack roars, and handling precision becomes razor-sharp. The suspension adapts brilliantly between Comfort and Sport, offering both composure and agility.

Price and Verdict
The McLaren 750S Spider starts at €329,400, with well-equipped models easily surpassing €400,000. But for that price, you get a supercar that blends power, lightness, technology, and daily usability — a rare combination in this segment.
